WELCOME TO BRILLIANT MUSIC STUDIO

STUDIO POLICY

Learning an instrument has many proven benefits. Playing piano both assists in children's development and enriches the lives of adults. Watch your child's confidence grow!

We provide quality music lessons including piano, theory, music reading, and ear training. We believe that music instruction should be enjoyable, built on a solid technical foundation, inspire creativity, and match each individual's goals.

Lessons
Lessons will be held weekly for the fall semester (September through December) and the spring semester (January through May). The summer months are a wonderful opportunity to make great strides on an instrument as school is not imposing on a student's time and mental energy. Summer lessons are required while both the student and teacher are available but with flexible scheduling.

Note: All parents/guardians are welcome at any time to observe.

What can you expect from us?
  • Specially tailored lesson plans that promote a successful pace for each student
  • Positive, constructive teaching style
  • An encouraging learning environment
  • Honest feedback on student progress
  • Your teacher will help you choose a piano if you need one.

What do we expect from our students?
  • A respectful, positive learning attitude
  • Dedication to practice
  • Well-prepared music and completed assignments for each lesson
  • Open communication with me about progress and expectation.

Practice is Key!
We want you and your child to get the most out of every lesson you pay for. That means making progress from week to week. We highly recommend (and expect) the student to come to lessons prepared to move on to the next assignment. We believe that this is what every student and parent expects to get out of taking lessons. The responsibility for being prepared for each lesson is with the student. The more you practice between lessons, the better you will become and the faster you will progress.

Lesson Preparedness

Piano students are expected to have take off their shoes, washed their hands before coming for their lesson. Finger nails should also be kept trimmed and clean to allow playing on finger tips.

We ask that you make every possible effort to have your child here at least five minutes in advance of their lesson time. We cannot run over into the next student’s lesson time if your child is late, and we don’t routinely make-up for “late” time. If you know that you are going to be more than five minutes late you may wish to call and reschedule the lesson.
Please be respectful of the other students having lessons and help keep our waiting area quiet.
We have wireless high-speed internet available – just ask us for the password!

Recitals
We have two studio recitals (Summer & Winter) throughout year. Our students also participate in different festivals and competitions.
There will be a nominal fee due for recitals that helps pay for the venue, trophies, and gifts for children.

Rescheduling
Students needing to reschedule a lesson should let the teacher know at least a week in advance to ensure a time slot.

Cancellations
Students must cancel lessons by phone or email with at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations are considered excused for illness, family emergency, or severe weather (public school closures). Excused cancellations with sufficient notification will be given a make-up lesson within the month or lesson credit towards the following month. No-shows, or cancellations without sufficient notification will not be given make-up lessons or lesson credits.

The teacher may need to reschedule or cancel a lesson due to illness, family emergency, or performance engagements. In this case, the teacher will provide a make-up lesson within the month or lesson credit towards the following month.

Tardiness
The student will contact the teacher by phone if they expect to be late for a scheduled lesson.
If a student arrives after their scheduled lesson time has begun, the teacher will complete the lesson in the remaining portion of the time slot. Additional time for student tardiness is not guaranteed.

Online classes
Students who wish to temporarily stop in-person lessons due to travel or illness may shift their lessons to a virtual setting to ensure progress continues and the timeslot is retained.

I am a happier teacher knowing that I have a studio full of families who are respectful of policies and my time, and my studio families are happy because they know exactly what to expect when they enroll in lessons each year. I call that a win-win!

Sincerely yours,
Studio Owner
